Linköping University plays an important role in East Sweden. The relatively young University is known for its open climate, with cooperation between departments and disciplines, as well as the desire to try new methods of education. It is a research-intensive university; half of the resources are allocated to research and scientific training.
Since the University was founded in 1975, instruction and research has focused on technology of the future, such as medical technology, industrial management and engineering, materials technology and IT. It is the second largest institution in Sweden regarding student enrolment in engineering and science education. Linköping University presently has the country's largest department for computer science.
The university comprises three faculties: Institute of Technology, Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Faculty of Health Sciences/Medicine. The University also has a campus in central Norrköping, which accommodates 5,000 students, focusing mainly on electronics and media technology.

Acreo AB
Acreo is a merger between the Industrial Microelectronics Centre and the Institute of Optical Research. Acreo´s task is to create collaboration between the research world and the industry, in which research results can quickly find industrial applications and where the needs of industry can influence the direction taken by research.
