Transports and Logistics

East Sweden is an excellent location for warehousing and distribution in northern Europe. Besides the three international airports, offering passenger and freight services, the region’s harbour, highway and railway transport networks provide efficient access to 100 million consumers in 10 countries within a day’s reach.

Industry, education and research

Third party logistics is an important business in the city of Norrköping. Norrköping also offers a number of operators with international transport nets that can solve any customer's problems. Several international companies, such as Whirlpool, Stadium, Philips, Goodyear and Procter & Gamble, have located their logistics activities for Scandinavia in the region.

Access to the University’s latest logistics research provides the region’s entrepreneurs with effective transport co-ordination, leading to direct time and cost savings. A unique education programme in communication and transport systems is located at Linköping University’s Norrköping Campus.

In addition, several of the governmental administrations are located in East Sweden, including the Swedish Maritime Administration, the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration and Authority, and the Swedish International Road and Transport Research Institute.

Infrastructure

The region offers a well-developed and adaptable transport infrastructure, boasting both practical requirements and the knowledge for co-ordinating road, rail, air and sea transport.

The region is Sweden's fourth largest population area. More than 50% of the population lives within a radius of 200 kilometres. Independent studies show that Norrköping-Linköping is one of the most strategic logistic positions in Sweden. The region has direct proximity to European highway 4 and the southern main line, as well as three international airports, providing scheduled flights, charter flights and freight air services.

The Port of Norrköping is one of the biggest and most modern ports in Sweden and the Baltic Sea areas. The port serves as the hub of the region’s logistics and transport centre, which has developed and established itself as one of the foremost in Scandinavia. The port has the capacity to handle all types of traffic and cargo effectively. Short throughput times and low costs are one result of a well-planned port and infratructure.
