Education level

The education level in East Sweden is high. The majority of the younger generations have between two and three years of studies at upper secondary school after nine years of compulsory school. When it comes to higher education, 40% of the people in Linköping has a university degree. As a whole, the East Sweden level is 30%, the same as the national level. (Source: Statistics Sweden)

Education is provided free in the nine-year compulsory school system (7-16 years old), the upper secondary school system and at universities and colleges. All students receive 850-2,500 SEK* per month in grants.

In Norrköping, Victoriaskolan, has school classes in English for children between 6-15 years old. In Linköping, Atlas skolan, has school classes for 7-11 year olds as well as a pre-school group for 3-5 year olds, a pre-school class for 6 year olds and pre- and after-school facilities.

Students who come to Sweden at the secondary school level may take advantage of The International Baccalaureate (IB) program at Katedralskolan in Linköping. The Berzeliusskolan in Linköping and Ebersteinska gymnasiet in Norrköping offer science programmes in English.

And if I want to learn Swedish? Folkuniversitet and Medborgarskolan, which are located in both Linköping and Norrköping, give courses in Swedish for beginners. Komvux in Linköping also gives courses in Swedish as a second language.

Does the University have courses in English? Linköping University is actively engaged in student exchanges and research collaboration with many universities abroad. The University offers many courses in English.
