Public services

What about medical services? Health care meets high international standards and every registered resident is entitled to health insurance cover. This subsidises the visit to a doctor, a hospital or a dentist.

Is there any public child care? From the birth of a child parents are entitled to a parental leave benefit for a period of 450 days. They are also allowed leave of absence with pay to care for a sick child. Most parents (62%) take advantage of municipal child care in form of day care centres or registered child minders.

Who do I turn to if I want to know more about schools and child care? In general you turn to the local authority's Trade and Industry Office (read more under education).
Norrköping: Telephone 0702-65 34 11 e-mail
Linköping: Telephone 013-20 66 70 e-mail

And if I want to learn Swedish? Folkuniversitet and Medborgarskolan, which are located in both Linköping and Norrköping, give courses in Swedish for beginners. Komvux in Linköping also gives courses in Swedish as a second language.
